Who is a candidate?

  • People in their early 30s often begin to notice sagging or wrinkled upper or lower eyelid skin, which may interfere with vision.
  • People who have lost their natural upper eyelid crease or have puffy pouches of fat in the lids that create a tired or aged appearance.

Procedure description

  • In most cases, the operation is performed using general anesthesia.
  • In traditional eyelid surgery (called blepharoplasty), the incisions are made where the natural crease should be in the upper lids and below the lash line in the lower lids. Excess fat and skin are removed.
  • Lower-lid blepharoplasty removes excess fat through an incision inside the lower lids, with no external incision or scar.
  • Dr. Szachowicz often uses brow lifts and cutaneous laser resurfacing in place of blepharoplasty.
  • Swelling, bruising and sensitivity to light last 1-2 weeks after eyelid surgery.
  • Eye makeup can be used after sutures are removed, and contact lenses can be worn when comfortable — usually within 7-10 days.
