Sculptra

FDA-approved cosmetic correction for the aging face. Sculptra Aesthetic is the only filler that gradually replaces the collagen lost in your skin with aging, while giving you natural looking results that can last up to 2 years.

Goal

Providing youthful fullness and structural support to your facial skin, resisting the effects of time, gravity and motion on your face.

Who is a candidate?

  • Adults who are starting to show sagging of the cheeks and want to restore youthful curves.
  • People who want to fill the hollows in their face caused by age-related loss of bone and soft tissue support.

Procedure description

  • During your initial consultation, a treatment plan is customized to address your specific signs of facial aging, as well as your personal goals.
  • Most treatments begin with correction of the facial contours around the mouth, the deeper nasolabial lines and grooves.
  • The discomfort is limited.
  • Sculptra comes crystalline as a powder which is reconstituted with water before injection. When injected, the water distributes the microscopic crystals of Sculptra to the tissues, similar to broadcasting seeds over a field. As the crystals breakdown, they stimulate new collagen formation.
  • As the water resorbs over the next day, your will look as you did before the treatments. New collagen will be stimulated to form in all the areas that the Sculptra was placed.
  • Treatments are repeated at monthly intervals (anytime from 3-6 weeks).
  • Typically 4-6 treatment sessions are required for each area of correction; such as around the mouth, cheeks and cheekbones, or the temple area.

Other options and additional procedures to consider include:

Since Sculptra is a gradual treatment, many people prefer to continue gel filler treatments such as Restylane, Perlane and Juvederm or other fillers such as Radiesse at the same time as they are beginning their Sculptra program. Certain areas such as the lips are not able to be treated with Sculptra, so lip injections will need to be maintained to get a full correction of the lip shape and volume.

Muscle relaxers such as Botox and Dysport, are commonly given at the same time as Sculptra. Wrinkles caused from the dynamic action of  the facial muscles are best treated with the muscle relaxers (usually in the upper part of the face).

These combination therapies often score have the highest patient satisfaction in surveys, as the combination treatments give the best overall facial rejuvenation.
