Goal
To remove small areas of localized fat on the face, neck, arms, breast formation in men, and anywhere on the body where the removal of excess fat by traditional methods would result in loose and flabby skin. Another goal is to simultaneously tightening the skin overlying these areas. (Conventional liposuction does not tighten skin).

Who is a candidate?

  • If you have areas of fat anywhere on your body that will not respond to diet and exercise, then SmartLipo™ laser lipolysis may be for you. Ideal candidates are in good health, of near normal weight and have good skin elasticity. Skin that has lost a significant amount of its elasticity from sun-damage, pregnancy or weight gain/loss will not respond as robustly to the skin tightening ability of the laser.

Procedure description

  • SmartLipo™ is done under local anesthesia right in the office.
  • SmartLipo™ is a minimally invasive procedure which transmits laser energy via a tiny 1mm optic fiber under the skin.
  • The laser’s energy is delivered directly to the fat cells under the skin, causing them to rupture. The laser energy also is transmitted to the underside of the skin resulting in collagen shrinkage and skin tightening.
  • The session lasts about one hour for each area treated. For most people, typically only one treatment is required.
  • The fat cells ruptured by the SmartLipo™ are permanently removed and will not regenerate. In areas where the skin is excessively lax, the SmartLipo™ treatment can be repeated for the purpose of maximizing the skin tightening with serial treatments.
  • SmartLipo™ and Vaser LipoSelection begin to show the reduction of your fatty contours as soon as the swelling recedes (a few days to a week). However the healing phase is not completed for several months.
